The launch of the Theophan The Recluse Imperial Stout is tonight!

Now more silky, sweet and basically more gangster, Three Taverns has me there tonight!

Whaddup?!

Now many of you know I am an imperial stout lover, and when one the best breweries in the biz—Decatur, GA's Three Taverns—promises that their delicious Theophan The Recluse Russian Imperial Stout is going to be a "2.0" version starting with a special release tour tonight and tomorrow, I instantly clicked my heels and made my plans for Friday evening.
I almost cried when someone accidentally knocked
last year's version out of my hand! Pay up!
In the official write up below direct from the source, Three Taverns says this version is going to be thicker, a tad sweeter, and basically even more gangster. I can't wait to sip the results. Judging by their attention to detail including the sick label art, I am making room in my extensive beer glass collection for their commemorative 11-ounce teardrop goblet they are giving guests for the special "Release Tour." The regular $12 admission includes the tour and tastings, but the aforementioned Release Tour is an additional $10 and also includes a bottle to go with the glass. Boom!
According to the Three taverns site, the hours of the tours are:
Friday
5:30 PM – 9:00 p.m.
Saturday
1:00 – 5:00 p.m.
See y'all there?

Holla!!!

The official press release says...

We are excited to announce the release of Theophan the Recluse 2.0. We have adjusted the recipe for the 2016 release of Theophan by dialing down the lighter adjunct sugars and dialing up the heavier and darker malt sugars for a more viscous version of our Belgian-style Russian Imperial Stout. In other words, we dialed down the Belgian character and dialed up the Russian Imperial character. The familiar intensely dark flavors are present as always, but the dry, or as some say, thinner, finish has been replaced with a rounder and more full-bodied mouthfeel. This newer version takes Theophan to the next level of malty goodness.
Join us this Friday and Saturday, Jan 8th & 9th, where in addition to the standard $12 brewery tour and tasting, that will include a tasting of Theophan 2.0, we will be offering an optional Release Tour that includes a guided tour of our bourbon barrel room, a commemorative 11oz. teardrop goblet and a 750ml bottle-to-go of the 2016 Theophan. The special Release Tour can be purchased for an additional $10 each. Look for Theophan 2.0 in the market on draft and on shelf the week of 1/11.
