Reel Talk: The Covenant
Reviewed by L.K. Byron
The summer season of blockbuster films, is just over the horizon. Getting an early punch in the action/thriller category, is The Covenant, starring Jake Gyllenhaal as Sergeant John Kinley. Set in Afghanistan, in the midst of war, Kinley is in desperate need of an interpreter and Ahmed, played by Dar Salim, becomes the chosen one.
Amongst a platoon of dedicated soldiers, they embark on a courageous mission to take the fight to the Taliban. With highly unfortunate and unforeseen events taking place, Kinley and Amed find themselves trapped, with Taliban forces quickly closing in on their location. Now, in an unimaginable fight for their lives, they are forced into a perilous journey through highly unforgiving and mountainous terrain, on foot. At this point and beyond, the suspense, action, and drama meters are set to full throttle. The bond between them will be put to the ultimate test as seemingly insurmountable obstacles and odds threaten to end their quest for survival and dreams of freedom.
If
you are in the mood for a thrilling ride and a gripping storyline, The
Covenant aims, fires, and hits the target.
