Who is this year’s Hop King? You Judge today!

Hit up the Brick Store for the climax of the Epic Blind Flight IPA Tournament

Whaddup!!!
It’s about to go down for hop heads like me at one of the best beer bars in the world, Decatur’s own Brick Store Pub, during their annual Epic Blind Flight IPA Tournament! Today they serve up the six finalists of 18 possible contestants the public selected over the span of three weeks. At 11:00 am, the Brick Store is tapping the elite hoppy sextet to see which brewery will win top honors as the best IPA of the year according to hundreds of ballots being submitted during November.
Peep ‘em:
Alpine Duet
Ballast Point Sculpin
Bells 2 Hearted Ale
Creature Comforts Tropicália
Three Taverns’ A Night on Ponce
Wicked Weed Pernicious

Besides voting for which is the best out of the finalists, try and blindly pick what each one is. Of course, it’s a lot easier knowing the five contestants compared to the initial field of sweet 16, but hey.
The winner will be announced at 9 p.m. I can’t wait to see who the Hop King will be this year!
Also, look for my Annual Ale Sharpton Gift Guide coming soon too!

Cheers!

Thrillist Nominates Me For Atlanta's Mayor!

How dope is this?

Whaddup!

Okay, so I get back home from kicking it in Blue Ridge, Georgia and staying in one of the Mountain Top cabins to get a breather literally (love the mountain air), and I see Twitter homies pumping this article out when I wake up: "Thrillist Atlanta's 15 People Who Should Be Mayor Of Atlanta."
First, Hilton Hotels retweets it (thank you), and then PR queen Caren West and media specialist Catherine Koonce hit me up.
I was so blown away by this; especially when I kid around saying I am the Mayor of Beer in ATL and do the best I can to let the world know how gangster this city is when it comes to ales and lagers. A tear is shed.
A definite shout out to Thrillist Editor Mike Jordan for writing this clever piece and including me and my AllWays Open Creative team (Eric Nine, Mike Moore, and Truth) in the company of some MAJOR playas including Elton John, Killer Mike, Mike LaSage, Grant Henry, Steven Koonin, Bem Joiner, JC Winter, Janelle Monáe, Arthur Blank, L.A. Reid, Ford Fry, Ludacris, and Clark Howard. Super dope!
Oh, and an extra shout out to the brilliant Chris Watkins for taking that flick of me doing a video in front of Hop City on Marietta Street!
Trust me, if I was mayor, ATL would be even more cray in a good way for beer and art, and the traffic would be better some 'effin how. I do want to commend Mayor Kasim Reed on what he has done, though. 'Nuf respect.
Long live The A!

Love y'all!

Three awesome events in ATL starting today!

The Brick Store goes hop-crazy during their Blind Flight IPA tournament!
The Brick Store, SouthBound and Food 101 throw down!

Whaddup!!!

I just got back from an awesome trip to Baltimore seeing all my people and getting my culinary touring on; I hunted down the best crab cakes in the world (look up #crabcakehunt on Instagram), had a magnificent brunch at Miss Shirley’s (look here), and visited my second home—Max’s Taphouse here. Upon my return home, I was welcomed by some awesome events popping off starting this Tuesday, followed by the ridiculously dope, five-chef dinner I am helping host at Food 101. Here are three can’t-miss events you need to strikingly consider hitting up if you lucky enough to be in Atlanta.

Brick Store Pub’s Epic Blind Flight IPA Tournament Part 2
Tuesday, November 10, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
125 E Court Square, Decatur, GA 30030

One of the best beer bars in the world, the Brick Store, is hosting the second round of their "Epic Blind Flight IPATournament" tomorrow. Co-owner and homey Dave described it for ya here:
“We need YOUR help to determine one the best IPA's in the land. Here's how it works. We are going "Blind Flight" style again for this From 5:00 to 7:00. Five Beers each Tuesday beginning next Tuesday the 3rd, followed by the 10th and then the 17th. The top 2 from each of these weeks will move on to the "Top 6 IPA Showdown" on Tuesday the 24th.”
Last Tuesday, Round 1 of the IPA Blind Flight included Bell’s Two Hearted, Sierra Nevada Torpedo, Great Divide Titan, Creature Comforts Tropicália, and Dogfish Head 60 Minute. The Tropicalia beat Bell's by a sip to be ranked #1, but they both will be poured in the semi-finals on Tuesday November 24. This is dope idea for hop heads (like me), right? Cheers to the Brick Store. Oh, their food is official too! Here are the remaining entries…

Boulevard Single Wide
Cigar City Jai Alai
Founders Centennial
Jekyll Hop Dang Diggity
Smuttynose Finest Kind
